Learn the Facts About Getting a Florida Temporary Boating License

If you’re dreaming of exploring Jupiter’s beautiful waterways with a boat rental from Beach Water Sports, you’ll want to know all about the Florida temporary boating license. Whether you plan to rent a pontoon boat, deck boat, or fishing boat, having the right certificate is the first step. Here’s what you should know.

Who Needs a Florida Temporary Boating License?

Florida law requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1988, to carry a Boater Education Card to operate a motorized vessel with 10 horsepower or more. This includes rentals.

If you haven’t earned the permanent card yet, don’t worry. A Florida temporary boating license lets you rent and operate boats legally. This is especially helpful for visitors or newcomers who want to enjoy a spontaneous boat rental during their time in the Jupiter area.

The Testing Process

Getting your Florida temporary boating license is quick and simple. Go to BoatTests101 to take the approved online test.

The test contains 25 multiple-choice questions, and you’ll need to get at least 19 right (76%) to pass. You can study first or give it a shot right away. Unlimited retries mean less stress!

Once you complete the test and pay the $9.99 fee, your temporary boating certificate will arrive by email. Just show the digital certificate or a screenshot when you visit Beach Water Sports for your boat rental. While anyone can take the exam, drivers must be at least 14 years old to operate a personal watercraft and 18 to rent a boat in Florida.

Other Boating License Options

If you forget to take the test or want to do it in person, Beach Water Sports offers a temporary license on-site for $3.00. Simply arrive an hour before your boat rental reservation to take a quick test. Bring your photo ID, and you’ll be certified for 12 months.

If you prefer a permanent license, visit BoatUS online for an open-book exam. Score 80% or higher, and you’ll get a laminated license in a few weeks. While waiting, you can use the printed exam completion page as a temporary license.
